The Seacoast Isn't a Secret. But It Still Feels Like One.
Here's something we don't say enough: we chose this.
Jeff and I didn't grow up on the seacoast. Neither did Greg. But Greg got here first, and while we can't say it was him that pulled us north, something did. Our hearts got there before we did. Instinct kept pointing in the same direction. Eventually, we stopped arguing with our instincts.
We live in Dover, NH. Ten minutes from Portsmouth. Thirty-five to forty minutes from a lot of the towns many of you are in, or have already started leaving. And we know that distance. We've driven it in both directions more times than we can count. We know what you're leaving. We know what you're wondering about. We wondered the same things.
What we didn't expect when we finally made the move was how much we didn't know we were missing.
Not the waterfront, though that's real and it's special. Next week I'm going to learn more about the working waterfront on
the Piscataqua today.
Not the restaurant scene, though Portsmouth holds its own against any city we've spent time in.
What surprised us was the texture of it; the way the community actually functions year round, not just in July. The towns just inland that give you everything without the price ceiling of the water's edge. The way Maine is right there, and some of our favorite places in Massachusetts are still close enough to matter. The way it all connects into something that feels less like a market and more like a life.
We've spent years helping people find their way to get their house and life feeling right. Some of you reading this have made your move already, some are thinking about it, and some are just keeping an eye for someone you know. In every case, what we've found is that the people who make good decisions and transition well aren't usually running away from something. They're moving toward something specific. They just needed someone who'd already done it to tell them what to look for, and assure them it was the right decision.
That's us. Not because we have all the answers, but because we've asked every question you're probably asking right now.
Portsmouth is one piece of it.
Greg's video will show you a day in his life there better than we could describe it. And if the median price numbers in our short video catch you off guard, you're not alone. They caught us off guard too, once upon a time.
The seacoast isn't a secret. But it still feels like one when you finally get here.
