Life Just Right: Why I’ve Done This for Nearly 40 Years

“You are always one decision away from a totally different life.”
— Mel Robbins
For nearly 40 years, I’ve worked in real estate — not because I love houses (though I do appreciate a beautiful one), but because I love people who are brave enough to move forward.
That’s who I show up for every day.
The ones who ask:
-
Is now the right time?
-
Should we stay or should we go?
-
What would life look like if we finally did the thing we’ve been talking about for years?
This is where the Life Just Right series begins — at the intersection of real estate and real life.
Because buying or selling a home is rarely just a transaction. It’s a decision about the next chapter of your life. About living with intention. About creating space for what matters most.
Each week, I’ll be sharing stories, tools, reflections, and real conversations with people who have chosen to move — not just from one address to another, but toward a life that fits who they are today.
Over the years, I learned that clarity often doesn’t come before the decision—it comes after we take that brave first step.
It’s not about having it all figured out. It’s about being brave enough to begin.
That’s what the Life Just Right series is all about—giving yourself permission to explore change, in your own time, your own way.
I have always loved being near (or on) the water. I have sailed, kayaked, walked the beach, travelled to places near and far just to be at the water. Today, spending time at home with a water view is still a dream I’m moving towards. Some of you know that I made a ‘big’ move just about 3 years ago. I wanted life to be a bit simpler and to be a bit closer to the Atlantic Ocean. Our 300 year old house near the Piscataqua River has done that. Now, I am talking about “what’s next?” and keeping my encouraging self-talk going. Someday, I’ll be even closer to the water and dream of having that water view too.
If you’ve been quietly wondering “What’s next?” or asking yourself, “Is this the right time to begin again?” — this series is for you.
One of my favorite takeaways from Mel Robbins' book The 5 Second Rule is this:
“If you have an instinct to act on a goal, you must move within 5 seconds or your brain will kill it.”
Whether it’s picking up the phone, asking a question, or scheduling a consultation — that moment matters.
In real estate, people often think they need clarity before taking a step. But Robbins reminds us: sometimes clarity only comes after we move.
Count it down: 5-4-3-2-1. Let’s go.
If you’ve been thinking about a change — even quietly — this series is for you. It’s for all of us who dream of more.
