Town of Andover, MA History
Andover was originally settled in 1636 under the Indian name of Cochicewick, a waterway in the region. The community was incorporated in 1646 as the Town of Andover, named after a town in England from where many of the settlers had come.
In the early days of the town, manufacturing was a major concern. The regions first powder mill was established in 1775; The manufacturing of paper began in 1789 and in the early nineteenth century, woolen mills were constructed. While all these types of manufacturing have since moved elsewhere, Andover continues to attract major industry due to its location and easy access to Boston, Routes 495, 93 and 128.

Pomp's pond, located off Abbott St, offers a spacious sunbathing area; volleyball area; childrens playground; shaded picnic grounds; sailboat, canoe and kayak rentals; and recreational and instructional swimming.

Andover Transportation
Andover has outstanding highway access with its location at the intersection of Interstate Routes 93 and 495. State Routes 28 and 133 also run through the community.
Andover is a member of The Merrimack Valley Regional Transit Authority (MVRTA), which provides fixed route bus service.
Commuter rail service to Botston from two stations, Andover and Ballardvale.
